Back Pain

Back pain is one of the most common health issues with 8 out of 10 people dealing with some form of back pain in their lifetime. It can come on as a sudden pain, be triggered by an accident or heavy lifting or be a dull chronic pain. Sometimes back pain can go away on its own, but other times medical care may be necessary.

You don’t need to live with your back pain simply because it is such a common ailment. Even simple issues like a strained back muscle can find relief from chiropractic care. Whether you deal with mild or severe, acute or chronic pain, Physicians Plus can help diagnose your back pain and get you back to living a happy, pain free life!

Types of Back Pain

Back pain can come in a lot of variations from where it hurts to how much it hurts and can be caused by a multitude of issues. Often, back pain is categorized by the length of time it lasts. Back pain that comes on suddenly and resolves itself quickly is categorized as acute back pain. Pain that lasts from 4 to 12 weeks and comes on either quickly or slowly is called subacute back pain. Lastly, chronic back pain is pain that comes on quickly or slowly and lasts longer than 12 weeks. If you can recall how long ago your back pain began, it can help your physician better understand your type of back pain and which treatment might be more beneficial.

What to Look Out For

Pain from a back issue can manifest in different ways and locations. You may experience a dull ache or feel more intense shooting or burning pain. This pain can also radiate to different areas like down your leg. Any back pain should be brought up to your physician but it is especially important to seek out care if your back pain is radiating far down your leg, lasts longer than a few weeks, doesn’t get better with rest, or is accompanied by weight loss. Seek medical care immediately if your back pain is the result of a fall or injury, or is accompanied by fever or new bowel issues.
